EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT – OPEN COMPETITION

Job Purpose

Educational Assistants are to assist in the education, development and training of students as well as to assist in maintaining a smooth and efficient operation of the school in general. Substitute Educational Assistants must work under the supervision of a teacher and/or administrator and take direction from the professional(s) to whom they are assigned. The Educational Assistant supports students who may have special behavioural/intellectual needs. They will support the instruction of the students. They may be required to modify material and teaching styles to account for the individual needs of the students. The Educational Assistant is required to consult regularly with the teacher, admin, and Inclusive Education Coordinator for the benefit of any student. They are to follow the same code of conduct as certified teachers and are expected to develop trusting relationships with children and involve family and community members in classroom activities on a regular basis. They will supervise students in structures (classroom) and unstructured settings (hallway, recess, lunch). Other duties include assisting with implementation of material and programs designed and prescribed by teachers. Performing objective marking of student work, using the teacher made answer key. This role will also support the evaluation and reporting on student’s intellectual, social, behavioral, and academic progress on a regular basis. The Educational Assistant will support the planning, organization, and maintenance of student records effectively. They are expected to accompany and supervise classes or groups on excursions or field trips and assist the teacher with any classroom tasks when requested.

Education, Experience and Requirements

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma
• 2+ Years experience working with children with disabilities and/or children with a variety of behaviours
• Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training

Working Conditions

Required to work a total of 40 hours a week, at maskêkosak kiskinomâtowikamik School, while adhering to the Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual.
