Job Purpose
As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse, you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to promote, maintain or restore mental health and prevent mental illness, injury and disability. The Registered Psychiatric Nurse will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary medical team to identify and respond to medical and mental health emergencies as well as provide medical and mental health counselling, information and support. The Registered Psychiatric Nurse will use extensive knowledge of Health Canada and Alberta Health Services psychiatric programs and services to provide appropriate referrals for patients. The Registered Psychiatric Nurse’s responsibilities will also include the development and delivery of mental health education/awareness programs in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.Education, Experience and Requirements
•Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills
•Perform within their scope of practice within the regulatory environment established by their professional college.
•Use a variety of strategies to address stigma and discrimination around mental health and addictions issues.
•Engage with stakeholders and the community to promote mental health and wellness.
•Integrate harm-reduction philosophies and best practices into health care planning.
•Identify individuals, groups, communities and special populations that are at risk for suicide.
•Collaborate with the community for suicide prevention and postvention activities.
•Explore the client’s cultural needs, beliefs, practices and preferences.
•Incorporate the client’s cultural preferences and personal perspectives into the plan of care.
•Completion of an accredited Psychiatric Nursing educational program.
•Diploma of Psychiatric Nursing with 5 years of experience or a Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing with2 years of experience.
•Registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses ofAlberta.
•Experience working in a community mental health setting is an asset. Experience working with FirstNation communities and members is a definite asset.
Working Conditions
Required to work Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, at the Enoch Cree Nation Health Centre, may be required to work after hours and/or weekends when required. Over the course of their work, the employee will be required to travel to clients’ residences as well as other community resources as required. While adhering to the Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual.
