Job Purpose
Child Caregivers provide safe, educational environments for children while their parents are at work and take care of their basic needs, including dressing, feeding, and supervising play and nap times. Child Caregivers ensure the safety and welfare of children before and after school or at other times while parents are working. The Child Caregiver needs to promote a positive attitude and act as a role model for the children in the Centre.Education, Experience and Requirements
• Criminal Record check and Clean Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check
• Level 2 Certificate required, and willingness to enroll in the ECE online/local courses
• Courses, training or education in a relevant field (child development, child guidance, health,
safety & nutrition)
• Childcare First Aid (or willingness to obtain)
• Experience working with both children and their families/guardians
• Must model appropriate behavior and language
• Practice and model proper hygiene
• Use clear communication techniques, whether oral or written
• Use consistent, positive child guidance strategies
• Communicate effectively and work closely with children, parents and colleagues
• Deal creatively and effectively with any problem situations that may arise
• Joy in dealing with people (especially children)
• Accept the responsibility for daily projects and the supervision of children
• The desire and ability to work with little to no supervision
• Deal creatively and effectively with any problems or situations that may arise
• Self-motivation with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• A positive outlook on work and life balance.
• An engaging style who works well as part of a team and is also able to work
independently.
• Knowledge of child development and the various stages of development
• Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and experience working in First Nations community
Working Conditions
Caregivers will be required to work from 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM Monday to Friday. There are currently three shifts that are routinely rotated between the Caregivers. Shift one; 8:00AM-4:00PM, shift two; 8:30AM-4:30pm, shift three; 9:00AM-5:00PM. Caregivers are on their feet most of the day and routinely lift babies and children weighing up to 20 kilograms. While adhering to the Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual.
