Job Purpose

The oskayak kotawân in an organization dedicated to maintaining the safety, care and general well-being of the oskayak that we serve. oskayak kotawân provides a balanced safe environment (nest) to youth that supports the growth of spirit, body, mind and emotions through maskêkosak néhiyawéwin. The Well-Being Support Worker will provide a wide range of services with an emphasis on developing therapeutic relationships with children, youth, and their families. The Well-Being Support Worker acknowledges that the human spirit is intricately involved in the healing of the total person—mind, body, soul and spirit and will work with the client and the program to ensure that the holistic child is nurtured. The Well-Being Support Worker works in a home like environment and provides primary care to youth. They maintain and increase the level of well-being, permanency, safety, and connection to supports available. You will work collaboratively with other community services including school teams, teachers, social workers, nurses, physicians, RCMP, Victim Services, and local Indigenous and Non-Government Organizations to provide a comprehensive, person, and family centered approach to care while using best practices within your work. The well-being support worker will be expected to establish and maintain open and effective communication between youth, Child and Family Services, oskayak kotowân team members, maskêkosak newowacistwan nâtamâkêwin society staff, parents, and other stakeholders. Additionally, this position will be required to help develop the skills of the youth they serve, develop care plans for the youth, and complete evidence-based assessments and care. The well-being support staff will be working closely with the Shift Lead, the House Manager, program staff, counsellors, in-home support workers, and the maskêkosak newowacistwan nâtamâkêwin society.

Education, Experience and Requirements

•Have a clear Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check.
•Sign the Confidentiality Agreement during orientation.
•Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, manage aggressive behavior and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques.
•Work efficiently and be punctual.
•Broad knowledge of other helping disciplines and their role in client care.
•A strong ability to foster good public relations.
•Demonstrated judgment, good observation and client assessment skills, tact and empathy.
•Comprehensive knowledge of developmental theories, narrative therapy, family dynamics, treatment and behavior management modalities.
•Demonstrates team working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and clientele.
•Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promote communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within an interdisciplinary setting. Demonstrated and proven good interpersonal skills, including crisis intervention, stabilization, de-escalation and brief.
•Willingness to partake in maskêkosak traditional and cultural practices as well as willingness to learn Cree language.
•Must be able to adapt to change and be innovative with current practices and skills.
•Must have their own transportation.
•Diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or other Human Services related field.
•Three (3) years (recent) direct youth work experience; experience in family support work, group facilitation and/or advocacy is an asset.
•1-3 years of work-related experience is a must.
•Experience working with Indigenous populations and youth.
•Understanding of mental health and alcohol and drug addiction issues.
•Knowledge of available programs and services, their interrelationships, and their function in delivering care in the community.
•Knowledge of applicable legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and Child Protection legislation.

Working Conditions

The Well-Being Support Worker will work out of the oskayak kotawân Hub on the Enoch Cree Nation and is required to work the hours of 12pm- 8pm, Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be willing and able to flex their schedule if or when there are program and/or service changes; or if there is an emergency. Will be required to work some weekends. While adhering to the Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual.
