Job Purpose

The Maskekosihk Nehiyawewin Department Manager oversees the direction and mandate of the Nation’s Culture & Language Program. Working closely with the Nehiyaw Pimâtisiwin branch Senior Manager and branch leadership, sub charities staff, elders, and community members, the Manager will ensure the program goals, objectives, and requirements are met.

Education, Experience and Requirements

  • Minimum five years experience working with employee schedules, department managers, and community members. 
  • Required practical experience in the coordination of community cultural events. 
  • Knowledge of the Cree language is an asset. 
  • Proficient in computer skills and Microsoft Office (word, excel, PowerPoint, outlook, etc.) 
  • Willing to do more training as needed. 
  • May accept experience in place of some or all the educational requirements. 

Working Conditions

You are required to work from Monday to Friday, 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Maskekosaihk Nehiyawewin Department, adhering to the Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual. Some travel and overtime may be required. 
  • Understands the concept of nehiyaw pimatisiwin, the “Cree way of Living,” and can role-model this lifestyle for others. 
  • Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license. 
  • As a fundamental aspect of this role, maintaining professionalism and respect is always expected and setting the right tone for interactions with colleagues and clients. 
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. 
  • Able to handle change and timelines, flexible.
  • Responsible and accountable to the approved budget for the current fiscal year and will be expected to report on it quarterly or as otherwise requested.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of cultural services, events, and programs for the Enoch community that align with the department’s mandate.
  • Could you provide regular reporting on the department's activities?
  • Develop cultural heritage programming, work plans and policies.
  • Could you facilitate regular staff meetings to maintain lines of communication with staff?
  • Please attend all requested meetings and represent the department on boards, committees, and community organizations of Enoch as needed.
  • Please help with recruitment, orientation and training staff members; provide ongoing support with timesheets, payroll, and absence requests.
  • Ongoing supervision of all coordinators and support staff and providing directives per the department’s objectives.
  • Complete regular employee performance evaluations, performance coaching, reprimands, promotions and position reclassifications; ensure staff compliance with Enoch Cree Nation Policies & Procedures when necessary.
  • Will adhere to Mechet and ECN's financial policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager
